Ekal Vidyalaya is a Movement involved in integrated & holistic development of rural & tribal India. The main activity undertaken in this movement is to run one-teacher schools (known as Ekal Vidyalayas) all over India, in the remotest rural & tribal villages to take the education to every child.
Ekal Sansthan was formed in year 2008 to support Ekal Abhiyan in Research & Development, Communication Strategies, Training & Capacity Building of volunteers, Strategic Interventions, Decision Making Support to Abhiyan Trust & to create avenues in urban areas to bridge the gap between rural & urban communities.
Background
Ekal is a story of social dreamers who believed that change is possible and education can be the medium to bring the change in the life of last man in the last row in the remotest parts of India.
Vision
To facilitate the process of empowering rural & tribal communities based on the concept of social, economic & gender equality.
Mission
Holistic development of villages through empowerment of tribal (vanvasi) and rural communities in India with basic education, digital literacy, Skill development, health awareness, learning modern and productive agricultural practices and rural entrepreneurship.
The Ekal Vidyalaya operates a village school at a cost of INR 20,000 per a year. Ekal is able to maintain schools at such a low cost because it works with a low overhead and is supported by local villagers who work shoulder to shoulder with Ekal.
IWCA AND EKAL VIDLAYA
IWCA sponsors two rural schools in the remote villages of India every year, thus giving aid to 76 students.
